Erect, 8 to 12 meters high, with a definite trunk; branches numerous, stout, curved at base but soon erect, 10 to 15 cm in diameter; ribs 4 or 5, 4 to 5 cm high, thin in section , separated by wide intervals; radial spines 5 to 8, brownish, 3 to 5 cm long; central spines 1 or 2, 10 cm long; flowers funnelform, large, 17 to 22 cm long, inodorous; outer perianth-segments green or reddish at tips; inner perianth segments white; fruit glabrous, smooth.
