Original Description: The Cactaceae 4 p.97 - Britton & Rose (1920)
Globose to elongate-turbinate, 5 to 7 cm in diameter, lactiferous; tubercles closely set, terete, nearly hidden under the numerous slender spines; axils of tubercles at first very woolly and setose; spines white except at tip and there brown; radial spines 12 to 15; cetnral spines 3, erect or nearly so; fruit red, about 1 cm long; seeds brown.
