Most likely too much light unless you are over-watering it.

Re: My high tech cacti farm
None of my dragon fruit sprouted out of 200 seeds. I have 200 more but think I might have killed them by overheating them in the sun.
I will keep you posted of batch #2.

Re: First attempt planting San Pedro seeds: What now?
I just use a mixture of 50% cactus soil by miracle grow with 50% perlite and water about twice/thrice per week in summer, once per 2 month in winter. Those little guys look exactly like my Trichocereus Pachanoi babys did last year. Below is a photo @ a year later. Pachanoi's can take quite a bit of ...

Re: Preventing fungus
Hi mikej, I grow a lot of different cacti from seed. I too run into fungus issues. What I've discovered is you need to need to drop the humidity levels if it's warm or near a light, heat pad ect.. I just open the lid or remove it and shade the seedlings with a sheet of white copy paper, it helps to ...

Hello 7george,
You may be right, I dunno but I bought it in a group of labled ferocactus. Just forgot to re-label the little fella. That's why I'm fairly certain its a ferocactus.

Re: Sunburn or rot?
Hi Keith, Yes, I keep them out all summer and bring them inside in the winter, then allow them to go dormant. I have also been using the miracle grow/perlite and it has been working really well. The plant has been in full sun all summer, but next year I'm going to be moving to a 50% shade cover beca...

Re: My high tech cacti farm
No mmcavall I haven't read that thread but i will. I just assumed it would have filtering properties because they use it in filtering aquariums & drinking water etc.. I know it traps harmful chemicals and such and and raises ph levels. hmm...time to go do some investigating..

True but they are also low maintenance, hardy and look great. I agree with you that that might be a tough nut to crack. It also looks like Copiapoa mollicula.

Re: A Copiapoa
Hey iann, It sure looks a lot like my Copiapoa Montana, just about a season smaller. But, I'm far from an expert. My expert opinion is that it looks like mine...lol :D My cactus was knobby like yours when it was young. Hope this helps ! PS: That's a nice flower for such a little guy.. My Copiapoa Mo...

Sunburn or rot?
Hi all, I am trying to figure out what is going on with my ferocactus. I suspect it might be sunburn caused from Jobe plant food spikes i was using till I read they were not good for small cacti. I did have him out and changed the medium, reduced lighting ect. ect. to no avail. He just seems to alwa...

Re: I have my first sprout!
I'd wager it's a saguaro if I was a betting man. Saguaros take only around 2 to 5 days to sprout. Ferocactus takes weeks. I have posted an article showing my grow rig titled " My high Tech cactus farm' showing my batches of baby saguaros. I want to get an Arizona seed mix as well, where did you...

Re: My high tech cacti farm
Thank you mmcavall , I've read through your post about your recent grow as well. You have had great success with your sowing too. You've got some great looking seedlings there. I enjoyed the part about your growing medium as well.
