Re: Some early new growth on a few Cacti

Well thank you Elie, it's fun to see them grow! Santa Rita is available all over where I live, I guess sending plants or even cuttings to other countries is a big hassle? I was at Poot's House of Cactus in Ripon earlier today and they have at least half of a table of them unsold! When it gets a litt...

Some early new growth on a few Cacti

Here we are in the middle of February and a handful of plants have already started growing a little bit. It seems a bit early as it still gets in the low 30s at night here, but we've had a few days where it got as high as 74F. From what I've read some of the Mammillaria types will flower in winter s...

Re: White stuff on Pachycereus Pringlei

Thank you ElieEstephane, I'll keep an eye on it but I did try to pick at it a little to see if there were bugs in it but whatever that is it's hard as a rock.

White stuff on Pachycereus Pringlei

I will probably need to take a better photo but any idea what this is? Scale? Scar tissue? I haven't started picking at it but it looks like it affects 3 areoles. Thanks for any advice.

Re: Mug Shots -Wonder who you're talking to?

Thank you Wayne, Arizona is pretty awesome, my last trip there I made a point to go see Saguaro National Park in Tucson. It's incredible for people who really enjoy cactus. I wish there were some Pachycereus Pringlei growing in the wild there but I guess a trip to Mexico is in order to see those in ...

Re: Mug Shots -Wonder who you're talking to?

My picture from Horseshoe Bend outside of Page, Arizona. I had to set the camera on the rocks and use the timer because nobody wanted to stand so close to the edge of the cliff!

Re: Sick/rotting cactus?

Looks like a San Pedro to me, though I'm also no expert. It looks like a bunch of old scars on your plant, doesn't look like rot to me. How did it look inside when you took your cuttings? I have some that look similar to yours, it seems the older they are the more scars they carry! They might scar f...

Re: My Stetsonia coryne is turning yellow.

Oh and yes it is still alive but I believe is still dormant, I'm sure the scar will be there for life but as it (hopefully) gets taller it will be less noticeable at the lower end.

Re: My Stetsonia coryne is turning yellow.

I think that the bluish purple dark area about where the "7" is on the tape measure in my photo is frost damage on my plant. Well, if you've had it 4 years then it is odd it would just turn yellow like that. I hope the mystery can be unraveled...

Re: My Stetsonia coryne is turning yellow.

How long have you had your Stetsonia Coryne Wayne? I got my first last year in late October from Arizona, and by the beginning of November it was showing signs of frost damage, although it was only getting down to the middle 40s at night here. I moved it to a more sheltered area and it hasn't change...

Re: A hairy appearing Opuntia

I think I found the type on Opuntiads.com. I think it looks most like the Opuntia diploursina, just in case anyone else has one like this and might be wondering!

A hairy appearing Opuntia

Doesn't look like the "Snow Prickly Pear" I've seen recently, the spines eventually grow into a big mat that looks more gray with age. Any idea what kind it might be?

Some kind of Cereus

I suspect this is Cereus Repandus but would like to confirm, I can't find a photo online that looks the same. Was labelled as Cereus Peruvianus Monstrose. Also is it normal to have much growth over winter? I noticed there are some buds starting to form at the base of the plant that I don't recall be...
