Re: Shmaroams humble seed diary
Now this was way too long since last update! The thread even got bumped to the 2nd page! We just passed 10 months since I sowed the seeds, exciting times its been alright! It is starting to get a little cramped in some pots, and mainly the question I have is about just that. Should I think about rep...

Re: Shmaroams humble seed diary
The pictures are very good, nice job! Yes, seedlings melted = rot. Happens to the best of us sometimes. Overall, your seedlings are doing great. The Stenocactus multicostatus look totally fine, the growing part is green. The red on the sides is not important. Some of the Turbinicarpus do look a bit...

Re: Shmaroams humble seed diary
Im BACK! :D :D 3 months since last post... its been a while! My seedlings are now 5 months old! Planned to do updates more often but other things came in the way #-o Some seedlings died during this time period, but this time not from mold. I managed to get that under control so have seen zero fuzzy ...

Re: Rust colored spots on seedlings
While scrolling down this list http://www.cactiguide.com/cactipests/ I feel like fungal attack looks to be the closest. But more help than that I cant provide, hopefully someone else will chime in. You could always post as well over on the Sick Cacti - Pests, Diseases, etc. board http://www.cactigui...

Re: Shmaroams humble seed diary
My Turbinicarpus alonsoi bag is still having troubles with another seedling getting consumed by mold, once the mold get onto the seedlings it seems to just explode. Two days ago no fuzzy mold was visible and now its already gone  I really need to transplant the still living seedlings ASAP int...

Re: Shmaroams humble seed diary
A 7 weeks update incoming! Now its starting to show that some seedlings have fallen behind their big brothers and sisters being unable to keep up in growth. Keep fighting small ones =D> =D> Also have a question about the Pleiospilos nellii . Specifically if I should treat them differently from the c...

Re: Shmaroams humble seed diary
Take a pair of tweezers and dig out a gob of the substrate with the moldy seedling. Once they get really rotten, that's the only way to get the whole thing - and that one is really rotten. Don't worry about the algae, it's not a problem. Watch closely for any spread of that mold, though. Yeah that ...

Re: Shmaroams humble seed diary

Just got back home and had a look at the seedlings, looking for advise and help on what to do with my bag with Turbinicarpus alonsoi . One of them have become super fluffy, is it mold? Any way of saving it or at least the others? S...

Re: Shmaroams humble seed diary
These are by far the fastest cacti seedlings i have ever grown! Lovely second picture there! Like a sea of seedlings, im assuming you took the seeds from one of your own flowers to get that many? Now some other seedlings have also gotten some spines but the baldianum are clearly the fastest on it! ...

Re: Shmaroams humble seed diary
Newly sprouted cactus seedlings should be white to pink, but not dark red or purple. They should soon green up, medium green to dark green, some reddish highlights are okay. [...] Yes, different species vary a little in seedling color. In my experience most species are fine with just a touch of red...

Re: Shmaroams humble seed diary
Somehow I previously missed the part about the M. pectiniferas turning "very red". That's not what I would call very red - the newly sprouted ones are pink, the older ones slightly reddish. Those are healthy colors for seedlings, no need to shade them. My M. herrerae seedlings look the sa...

Re: Shmaroams humble seed diary
Now its been 3 weeks since sowing and the Pleiospilos Nellii really started giving me an headache. It got way too crowded for my liking. Bought some 1-3 mm gravel, which I guess I should have bought from the start lol. But better late than never I guess. #-o Transplanted some of the them to a bigger...
