Look what I found!
I've been having issues with caterpillars eating my cacti but I found this guy on my tomato plant. Its a tomato horn worm caterpillar and its the largest caterpillar I've ever seen; about the size of my middle finger. I read somewhere that when they become moths they pollinate night blooming cacti. ...

Re: Opuntia Subulata - sick or pests?
It looks a lot like the damage I get on some of my opuntias from caterpillars. They attack my other cacti too and killed my double headed grafted astrophytum caput-medusa. It actually burrowed a hole into it and weaved some of the tentacles together and made a little home in the center. They seem to...

Re: Drill Bit Grafting with Pereskiopsis
Pretty cool!
I've done the drill bit method with small echinopsis pups. Except I just stuck it on there and put it in a humidity chamber for a week. it grew to the same size as the mother plant in about a year.

Re: Columnar cactus ID request
Here's a younger Carnegiea from the guide that I think better demonstrates the young seedling spine and aereola color I was talking about.

Re: Columnar cactus ID request
I'm going to agree with daiv on this one. I actually looked at this thread before there were any replies and I was thinking Saguaro, but decided to see what others would say. If you look at the new younger top growth on the tall column the spines and aereolas look very young Saguaro like.

Agree with daiv. Still a relatively fast grower though.

Re: Some Cacti Need ID's
The cutting is very small and probably difficult for anyone to identify. Do you have any pictures of the mother plant it was taken from?
I've never heard of an echinopsis bridgesii monstrose... Unless you meant echinopsis lageniformis monstrose, formerly known as trichocereus bridgesii monstrose.

Re: Fell onto Cactus-Question
I've been wanting to try this flax seed home remedy for splinter/foreign object removal, but haven't had the chance to since I haven't had any cactus spine trouble lately and I'm certainly not going to intentionally stick cactus spines into myself. Supposedly you can use flax seed to help work forei...
