Wrong. I've used perlite for longer than I can remember and it's never dissolved by water. Vermiculite will squash down, but never dissolve either. If your "Perlite" is dissolving, then somebody sold you something that is not true perlite.toson wrote:perlite dissolved by watering

Re: Windowsill and patio growing
I also declared that, as of the start of 2017, I would only grow cacti -- no succulents. But I am weak-willed these days -- how could I possibly resist Euphorbia aeruginosa with its Saguaro-like branching habit, beautiful blue-green (aeruginose) stems and distinctive reddish-brown "spines/shea...

Re: Reliable seed source?
I have ordered seeds from this place several times and shipped to Canada. No problem and their service is excellent!toadstar wrote:I sometimes order from http://cactusstore.com myself. Based in Arizona.

Yes! I've used it for years. It's the deodorizer spray. It is also good for powdery mildew. Another solution for powdery mildew is a mix of 1 part milk and 3 parts water and spray the mildew.williamsii823 wrote:Lysol Bathroom Spray????? 8(

I have used Lysol bathroom spray for that problem. I usually don't have mold problems, probably because I always lightly bottom water and rarely water from the top.

Re: LONG HARD WINTER.
Great answer. I live in a condo and the only place where I can store my cacti through the winter is in the unheated storage locker. It stays cool, gets some air movement and only gets some light when someone is in there, which is not too often. I've put a hook in the ceiling to hang my rat-tail cact...

I have done that several times with my cactus as well as my jades with no problem. I just don't water them for several days so they get their roots adjusted.

Re: Mother Plant Care after taking a cutting?
I would have let the cutting area on the mother plant dry for a few days before putting it back in the pot. If it doesn't dry and heal over, it may start to rot.
