Re: Mealybugs on Senecio Kleiniiformis - best pesticide?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I got some imidacloprid 1.47% based on your suggestions. As its more concentrated than in the other thread, could you recommend a specific dilution?

Also, I'm just curious if you would know how imidacloprid compares with acephate, as they're both systemics.

Mealybugs on Senecio Kleiniiformis - best pesticide?

A year or two ago I lost a Senecio Kleiniiformis to mystery rot. A few weeks ago I finally found a little one to replace it. Well nothing's ever as simple as it seems and the new Senecio has a case of mealybugs that wasn't very present when I bought it. For the time being I've been picking them off ...

Is this pot too tall

Hey everyone. I have a large barrel cactus (species unknown) that's needed repotting for a while now. After going through all the pots I had handy (I always save pots from garden and landscaping purchases) this was the smallest one I could find that was bigger than the previous pot. Soil Ratios

Hi all; after the last thread I posted (about fertilized perlite) I went out and got some more (better) soils for my mix. I want to make a general kind of mix as I have mostly cacti and cacti seeds, but I can adjust for my few succulent. My current mix is: 2 parts Fafard cactus mix 2 parts horticult...

How bad is Miracle Gro Perlite?

I've been gathering up supplies and soils to mix up for seeds and repotting in the coming months. I picked up a bag of Miracle Gro Perlite about a week ago, as it was the only brand available in pretty much every (major) store I checked. The problem is Miracle Gro seems to be a major supplier of soi...

Roots growing out of random Schlumbergera leaves

For a little background, I bought a pair of Schlumbergera plants about a month before Christmas. The one in question is a small one, but it had upwards of 8 flower buds growing from each terminal leaf. I thought something was strange about this plant, so I brought it home. Almost every one of the fl...

Re: Senecio Kleiniiformis stem collapse

I'm afraid I haven't been able to save much of this plant. A day or two after I posted this thread, I took two stem cuttings and removed two complete plants which were seemingly not affected by the rot. Pretty much overnight, one of the rooted plants starts rotting, and soon one of the cuttings also...

Senecio Kleiniiformis stem collapse

I've had this Senecio plant for about half a year, and its been through a lot. Shortly after I first got it I accidentally closed a window on top of it, damaging a few of the stems. Took a few months, but it eventually healed up and got better. Here's a picture of how it looked like for quite a whil...

Re: What I will sow next year (2013)

Ordered a few different seeds here and there, hoping that something will end up growing: Aloe Vaombe Ariocarpus Trigonus Aztekium Hintonii Aztekium Riterii Euphorbia Enopla Hylocereus Undatus Mammillaria Mammillaria Mammillaria Nivosa Titanopsis Calcarea Uebelmannia Meninensis Uebelmannia Pectinifer...

Re: Orange Spots on Hamatocactus

Here's an update on my Hamatocactus. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what exactly went wrong its not doing so well. The yellow/orange spots have spread, mostly along the ribs. Additionally, some spots are surrounded by darker skin. The whole cactus also seems to have sagged a little bit. Here's some rec...

Re: Fuzzy Seedling- is it mold?

Couldn't post an update earlier due to losing power from the Hurricane, but I had to get rid of the fuzzy seedling the next day after posting this thread because the fuzz had been growing far too quickly to be a normal part of the seedling. Then a week later, the ferocactus (?) that was next to it b...

Yellow Flowered Mesemb (Lapidaria?)

I bought this little succulent at the New York Botanical Gardens. There was no real identification listed with it, except it being labelled as a Lithops. It's been growing since about February, but I wanted to make sure I was giving it exactly what it needs. Note that it was smoother and fuller when...

Fuzzy Seedling- is it mold?

Last week, my mixed cactus seedlings started growing their first spines, and I got really excited. Today, however, I noticed this: 5340eadd-308c-476f-b6ba-d84d4ffb7b4c.jpg One of the seedlings has turned completely fuzzy at some point today. I'm pretty sure this is some kind of mold and want to get ...

Aloe Species

Can anybody identify this species of aloe? I got these two as a gift about 6 months ago, and they have been growing as bilaterally symmetric (as opposed to radially symmetric like other aloes). Is this caused by the plants themselves being young, or is this a species of aloe that just grows differen...

Orange Spots on Hamatocactus

About a month ago, I spotted some mealybugs on my hamatocactus. I applied a thorough spraying of insecticidal soap all over the cactus, and it seemed to have been successful as there was no more signs of any insects. The cactus has been quarantined from the rest of my collection since that time. A w...
