Hello all- I am looking for the definitive and final answer on this one. I had heard that Ferocactus acanthodes was retained, officially, and cylindraceus is no longer the accepted name. If anyone can point me to the publication where that occurred, I would be most grateful.
Thanks,
peterb

Re: peterb's 2014
A very few, Harriet. anyway I think you mean an "other" succulent, as (almost) all cacti are succulents.

Re: Kattermann collection
I look forward to visiting the collection and learning more. It's great to live 5 miles from the DBG. If I get a chance to get some detailed photos, I will post.

Re: Small mycorrhizal inoculant test
Is it possible that disturbing the plants, digging them up and transplanting them would curtail the life of the Mycorrhizae?

Re: Crested E. bonkerae
That's E. engelmannii, in my opinion, based on the flattened sort of deflexed central. Crests are not common in my experience. I've only seen two in about 10 years of field trips. Cool!

Re: North central Arizona habitat
Some of the more isolated engelmannii in California seem tidier to me (armatus, howei, perhaps munzii which I have never seen in habitat). It seems like they are more isolated in California, occurring in specific patchy locales with less continuous ranges. Looking forward to learning more about that...

Re: Echinocereus weedinii
Powell and Weedin do mention some populations that intergrade with chloranthus. The interfertility of this whole bunch is of course part of the "problem" with the names. Incredible variety if one takes into account the tiny viridiflorus in the strict sense from NM and north, all the way to...

Re: Echinocereus weedinii
Dave W's plant looks like Echinocereus russanthus to me, including the more rust reddish flowers. weedinii not only has uniformly golden/yellow spines afaik but also has flowers that come out a deep green and then turn brownish green over time.

Re: Echinocereus weedinii
I am not familiar with spine color variants in weedinii. I was under the impression that it's characters are pretty consistent. I'd guess that your plant, while a great looking plant, has some other genes in it.
