Re: The new cactus lexicon
Obviously no pictures but NCL-equivalent checklists of names include CITES Cactaceae Checklist + supplement, available at https://www.kew.org/science/our-science/science-services/UK-CITES/cites-resources and the Caryophyllales.org Cactaceae database, which is supposed to be revised regularly, see ht...

Re: Difficulties with Lobivia famatimensis
Your plant looks very healthy. It is a slow growing plant so what you describe seems normal. My plants seems to change size and shape regularly through the growing season as they take on water and then dry out.

Re: Looking for Backebergia militaris
I don't think you'll find this. This species is a Mexican endemic so habitat-collected seed isn't likely to be available unless someone smuggles it out illegally (and as they make unattractive seedlings it seems unlikely anyone would bother). It grows to 5-6m. Flowers are produced from an apical/ter...

Re: Challenge for Tephrocactus / Opuntia enthusiasts
I've bought this plant (here in the UK) labelled Tephrocactus atroglobosus. It's neither atroviridis (a synonym of Austrocylindropuntia floccosus) nor atroglobosus (a synonym of T. nigrispinus). After years of wondering how this misidentification came about, my best guess is that someone had a go at...

Re: ID please: possible Opuntia and Espostoa
For Espostoa identifications I assume all plants encountered are lanata or melanostele and that when the fluff is tightly wrapped (especially no loose hairs at the apex) as in your plant then it's melanostele.

Re: taxonomy things
How is Pfeiffera placed in the Echinocereinae tribe and what’s the deal with Lymanbensonia and how does it relate to Calymmanthium? Lastly does anybody here disagree with the relatively recent change of putting some species from Hatiora into Schlumbergera? It would be worth your while looking at th...
