Re: Lighting questions

I'm having problems finding fluorescent tubes that would clip on to a wire rack, and I just don't have the space for a big hydroponics-type set-up. My ceilings are too high to install a tube above my cactus rack, and I think that would violate my lease anyway, lol. I know the article says CFL bulbs ...

Lighting questions

I've been trying to choose only cacti that will do well with less light, since I have only an east-facing window to put them in. Most of them seem to be doing well, but some of them (a couple of the ones I got before I knew what I was doing or where to find light requirements) seem like they could u...

Re: Is it a Mammillaria? Which kind?

Looks a little like one I posted a few weeks back, which seems to be M. parkinsonii. I'm really new to this, though, so there's a very good chance I'm wrong!

Re: Good places to get Cactus

Has anyone else had much luck ordering off of Etsy? I got a gorgeous cactus that appears to be pest-free, very healthy and a bit larger than I expected for the price from an Etsy shop called Succulent Beauties (to add a grain of salt, I'm a newbie and I've only had it a few hours, so it could have p...

I'm finding this to be very true, although I'm already beginning to have trouble with space! Might have to move so I have room for more cacti.

Re: Spider mites?

Thank you so much! And thanks for being patient with all of my questions. Luckily I don't think they've spread and they haven't done much damage yet on the R. krainziana (the white spines made the orange stand out really clearly once they got to the visible areas), but I am grateful there's somethin...

Re: What to do with Mammillaria seed pods

Awesome, thank you. They are pretty cool looking. I wasn't expecting anything to have fruit, at least not so soon!

Re: Spider mites?

I looked up some of the threads with flat mites, and I could actually see that being the problem. We've had abnormally humid weather up here (70% today) for maybe a month now, and I don't have air conditioning aside from a window unit I only run when it tops 100 (which it hasn't), so indoors is pret...

Spider mites?

I'm posting a lot this weekend, sorry! I was just checking over my plants and saw a couple of small rusty spots around the spines at the top of my Rebutia krainziana, as well as around some new pups that are just springing up down toward the base. It looks like it might be the early signs of spider ...

Re: Cactus identification?

Yeah, the ones at the nursery were half to two-thirds the size for the same price, and they had pretty good prices there. Plus mine came in a ceramic pot (no drainage hole, so it's on a shelf right now and I re-potted the cactus, but still). It's been really overcast here this week so none of my bab...

What to do with Mammillaria seed pods

My M. fraileana has been flowering like it's going out of style, and I now have several seed pods, two of which are long and bright red and have been for a couple of weeks now, and the rest of which are in various stages of getting to long and bright red. What do I do with them? Do I leave them on t...

Re: Dumb question re: Mammillaria hahniana

Aww, I was hoping mine could be convinced to grow out its hair, lol. I debated getting a second one yesterday and decided against it because I am running out of space, but I'm getting a really nice baker's rack for my sunniest window next week and will have a lot more space then, so next time I see ...
