Re: Opuntia/Tephrocactus lagopus?
Thanks for the replies and links. The side-by-side photos of floccosa and lagopus always seem to show floccosa with white spines, which was part of my initial uncertainty. I also have a small plant recently grafted, which I got as T malyana. I guess I need to change the tag on it to Punotia lagopus....

Opuntia/Tephrocactus lagopus?
I got this one tagged as "Austrocylindropuntia lagopus v aurea", but it looks more like floccosa to me. I know synonyms can get a bit blurry on these, but I was hoping for some input.

Re: Experiments Grafting to Opuntia
Oh, meant to post an update on those 17 small rootstocks that I cut out of a single Opuntia gomei pad (2nd post on this page). I've seen the scion die off on 5 of them; the other 12 are showing signs of new scion growth.

Re: Experiments Grafting to Opuntia
Apologies if you've already discussed it in this thread but do you put any sort of pressure on the scions after grafting or keep the grafts temporarily in higher humidity to increase your success? Sorry for the slow response, I didn't get the usual notification email on your post for some reason. I...

Re: Experiments Grafting to Opuntia
How long do you wait to see new growth ? I have tried to graft seedlings on opuntia. First I grafted them to non rooted pads and it failed. (no growth in one month and flappy seedlings) Then I tried to graft seedlings on new growth of rooted cuttings but it failed again the same way. The opuntia I ...

Re: Creating a better moon cactus?
I had some success grafting chlorophyll deficient Gymno ("moon cactus") scions onto Opuntia cacanapa last year. Spineless Opuntia is abundant and cheap here. Where are you located? Also, I'd like to voice the opinion that "moon cacti" are grafted plants with no chlorophyll of the...

Re: Yellowing leaves on Fockea edulis
I'd try a bit less light since you've exposed the caudex, and I'd water it if the soil has been dry. They are deciduous, but it shouldn't be losing its leaves as we head into summer.

Re: Grafting & hydroponics
I've seen Pereskiopsis take root and grow a scion (slowly) in stagnant tap water, sitting in a bottle on the windowsill. I imagine a setup slightly more elaborate might actually provide a useful rate of growth.

Don't forget this will eventually need something to climb on if you plan to let it grow out.

Re: is my cactus producing fruit?
Yep, that's fruit. Looks ripe. Tweezers to get it off, then squeeze or cut to remove seeds. Rinse well (I shake them in a water bottle) and dry thoroughly before storing.

Re: Cactus-boring moths in Turbinicarpus & Leuchtenbergia?
Caught one while he was still munching. A close look at the plant revealed an entrance hole and some die-off, and squishing the plant slightly got him to come out. Just thought I'd share a photo of the culprit.
