Re: Wintering
Open the windows on nights when the temperature does not go down much than around -2C or so. Then all cacti should be alright as most can handle a bit of frost (assuming you don't have specific heath lovers). Fresh air will be one of the best things you can provide for your plants year round. What d...

Re: Some of my seedlings
Perhaps customs don't pose an obstacle in your country, but here the only country which doesn't seem to need special routing through our department of agriculture (USDA) is France (so far). Well, I do send seeds around the world including the US. And for as far as I know almost every envelope makes...

Re: Some of my seedlings
Seeds are indeed expensive. But not difficult to find. Many of the Czech seed lists offers Pediocactus peeblesianus. If they are willing to send some seeds in a bubble wrapped envelope (and not in a box), I am quite certain they can easily pass customs without difficulty.

Re: Every day new flowers in the greenhouse in Köln
With all that rain from the last few weeks, and all those pots outside still being soaked, are you not afraid the pots will not dry out anytime soon? I brought some of my outdoor plants inside a week ago. But my outside bulbs are in much smaller pots. I keep them in an unheated room with two windows...

Do you keep any of the hardy species in an unheated greenhouse during the Croatian winters?

Re: Most delightful fragrance in cacti?
Only cacti? The most impressive smell for me would be the flowers of Eriospermum paradoxum. I can smell the sweet scent from the other side of my (big) greenhouse. I like Mammillaria bertholdii's spicy, sweet scent. The flowers smell like cloves and cinnamon. You must be one of the first to know tha...

Re: Seed Sowing Density?
It depends a bit on the species. But if the seeds are not very big, you can easily fit up to 100 seeds in one little pot of just 5 centimeters. I have sowed amounts of 100 seeds in one pot multiple times through the years. The only disadvantage is in about a year or so you will need to repot them al...

Re: Gymnocalycium "Triple Trouble"
Interesting to see the petals being removed. That surely should help a bit. I always have some floppy petals being in the way of me trying to pollinate. Especially annoying if the petals are wet...

Also František Šibal from the Czech Republic has updated his seed lists. The list can be inquired via email. Send me a message if you want me to send you his email address (I don't want to publish it online). The list mostly contains South American cacti. Same goes for the list of Ladislav Fischer,...

Re: Updated seed lists
It's things like all Ariocarpus, all Discocactus, all Turbinicarpus, practically all Pediocactus and Sclerocactus, plus some other odds and ends. But then again, besides maybe the Discocactus, you can order the others easily at Mesa Garden. For some of those, like the Pediocactus and Sclerocactus, ...
