Dioscorea slyvatica care?

Post by Hassan Aftab »

I live in very warm zone 10ish .

My city lahore features a five-season semi-arid climate with five seasons: foggy winter (15 Nov – 15 Feb) with few western disturbances causing rain; pleasant spring (16 Feb – 15 April); summer (15 April – June) with dust, rain storms and heat wave periods , temps usually touch or cross 43c ; rainy monsoon (July – 16 September) which lowers the temps in 30s but increase humidity ; and dry autumn (16 September –14 November).....

Now a days it is 20 c in day and 5-8 c in night.

I have sowed dioscorea slyvatica and dioscorea elephantipes seedling in October. Dioscorea slyvatica germinated immediately whereas even now till December dioscorea elephantipes didn't germinated. Checked and all of dioscorea elephantipes seeds are rotted.

Dioscorea slyvatica seedlings stated to grow very quick in start but as the temps drop, they are not growing anymore.

They are out side in open. In house I cannot provide them bright conditions.

Should I pot them up in separate pots?

Should I cover them in night?

What should I do to care for them?

Temps would drop more in coming days, but our temps never go below zero. Minimum drop is 4 or 5 c in night.

Please help me, how should I take them further.
