Latest edition of the free British Essex Succulent Review is now available for download. Amongst articles on Oreocereus by Paul Hoxey, Aloes etc it contains an article on a chap called Endean who was one of the first to grow cacti in purely mineral composts in the UK, baking clay from his garden on a steel sheet over a bonfire and recommending it in his book, which predated Buxbaum's later method using broken brick, that is of course a harder form of baked clay. His method was the forerunner of both Seramis and cat litter culture.
