Mesa Garden index system

Post by panaMark »

Anybody know what seed index number system Mesa Garden uses? Seems like the old Dewey Decimal system the libraries used, but I don't know the equivalent for seeds :D Must be pretty rigorous as it sometimes goes to 3 decimal places! Thanks

Looks like it is just a way of inserting other seeds of the same species or genus into their existing numbering system without having to renumber them all every year. Rather than using 24, 24A, 24B etc they use 24, 24.1, 24.2 etc.

The SB numbers are Steven Brack's, who used to own Mesa Gardens, DJF David Ferguson etc. You can look up most of these collectors numbers on the BCSS Collectors numbers lists:-
