Schlumbergera for seedling grafting
Re: Schlumbergera for seedling grafting
Seems like a good method for me, because they grow really fast here, a red one i have tripled in size this year. So i will have enough stocks for my little random cacti field

Re: Schlumbergera for seedling grafting
You may find these a bit interesting. The small scion is the source of the Cereus scion on the Echinocereus pentalophus rootstock. The Hylo scion on the E. pentalophus was a flat graft, those on the Schlumbergera are all hypocotyl grafts.

Re: Schlumbergera for seedling grafting
My first try: 8 seedlings of echinocereus davisii f. brevispinus, grafted on schlumbergera segments and in a kind of humidity box, where they can also root.

Re: Schlumbergera for seedling grafting
Update on the grafting experiment: 5/8 e. Davisii made it. I also grafted 6 random seedlings that were five months old, those all made it.

Re: Schlumbergera for seedling grafting
Last week 7 of my seedling grafts doubled in size, quite impressive i think

Re: Schlumbergera for seedling grafting
Bit of an update on my post Feb 29, 2016.
The Cereus hybrid scion on E. pentalophus was transferred to a C. repandus plant 15516 and given it has gone through Rain, Hail and Frosts, has done quite well.
Be some time unfortunately, before it is likely to flower.

Re: Schlumbergera for seedling grafting
Hi snarfie
Be interested in knowing what the Schlumbergera clone you are using as a rootstock.
So far I have only used Xmas Fantasy which appears to be fine for Cereus, Hylocereus and Epiphyllim hybrids but not so good for some of the Echinocereus hybrid, seedlings.
Have a number of other clones coming on, Spring has just sprung here and before long I can test some of those for their value as rootstocks.
Cheers.

Re: Schlumbergera for seedling grafting
Plant suspected to be Austrocylindropuntia subulata cv monstrose, having little success in grafting to it.
Any suggestions?
