Hello,
I recently bought my first cactus, an opuntia. It had a flower glued to it, was packed in peat, and was infested with gnats. I removed the flower and took care of the gnats. I was going to re-pot it this weekend and put it in a better growing mix. When I pulled them out of the pot, I noticed some yellow and brown spots towards the base, near the roots. I think it might be the beginning of rot. It doesn't look like the damage is that bad. Are the cacti salvageable?
Thank you
all 4 from both sides.

Doesn't look bad. I would let them dry for several days before potting them. Put them in individual small pots just in case one or more does develop rot. I wouldn't be surprised if they all grow, though.

Great. Thank you. I will post in a few weeks and let you know how many survived.

They look fine to me! Pot them in individual pots and you should be fine!

How are your cacti doing BeauRog?

Hello,
The Cacti look good so far. All I had on hand was 2 4" terracotta pots. I put 2 in each pot with 2 parts oil dry to 1 part top soil. I've watered them twice since repotting them and no sign of rot yet. It looks like one of them is putting on new growth. I think I'm in the clear for now.
Thank you for the help.

You did a great job of getting the peat off. They all look good, no signs of rot to me.
