Red specks and browning

Post by flamekitty84 »

so I got this cactus along with 4 others at a cvs a few months or so ago and I went to pull this guys fake flower off and I got a closer look and could see brown marks everywhere that were not there before. theres also little red specks everywhere...the first couple pics show the specks and the last pics I took to show the brown more...
what is this? and what can I do to help?? is it some sort of bug???? and if it is l, what products can I buy to get rid of them?
also, im not sure what kind of cactus this is, so any help there would be good...
and how in the world do I post pics from my phone without them posting sideways???????

The specks are tiny! So it's hard to be sure, but probably mites. With a 10x lens you should be able to clearly see that they have legs. Without magnification, maybe you can just see that the red specks move, although not often and always slowly. If so, time to kill them because it will just get worse.

The problem with most sprays is that they'll wash off the nice grey colouring on the plant and you'll end up with a bright green one. Then probably burn it in the sun! I don't really have a good answer to that. Maybe you can find an aerosol, but make sure it is labelled for mites because mites aren't insects and some insecticides won't kill them.
