Moon cactus soft
The green stem cactus of my grafted gymnocalycium mihanovichi friedrichii has gone soft at the bottom! (**###**Panic sets in**###**). I noticed about 3 days ago that the stem was discoloring but it was still firm. Today I checked it and the base of the cactus (Francheska Kelly) has gone soft. When there is light behind it you can see what looks like hollowness in the area with juice occasionally flowing down and some seeds hanging out randomly. I don't know what could have caused this-she gets lots of light and i dont think i have overwatered? Someone please just help me!:( ive attatched pictures of the discolored area and the whole cactus.

Re: Moon cactus soft
Sounds like the cactus has rot. The usual procedure is to cut off the infected part of it, and then let it dry. From the looks of the picture it seems like most of the Hylocereus rootstock has rot, but, I would check to see how much of the stem feels squishy. If most the stem does feel squishy then I guess you could try re-grafting it.
Buying a cactus a day will keep the madness away.

Looks dead to me. It may not know it yet, but that green stick isn't going to survive. The top part might not be infected (probably is) and you might save it by grafting on to another stock.
