Echeveria purpurosum

Post by Micaela »

Hello everyone,

someone (..a caterpillar I bet  ) ate the central part / part of the trunk of my E. purpurosum.

It was very easy to pluck the first leaves, they were already detached, so I've put them in a pot and I want to see if they root or not.
But with the help of a flashlight I can see that the other leaves, the ones connected to the trunk, are rooting.

What have I to do? Must I leave all the leaves there and wait?..or should I put them on the soil?
Furthermore a pair of new plants are just growing under the basal leaves

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

Aside from trying to keep the caterpillars away there isn't much you need to do. Just keep growing the plant like you always have. The upper leaves will eventually die off on their own and the basal shoots will take over. You don't want to remove those big leaves (at least for now) as they are still producing lots of energy for the plant that will help the little shoots grow bigger faster.
