possibly been bumped or knocked off but sometime the gymnos do just abort flowers. They do need quite a bit of heat and light to successfully flower.

Re: Gymnocalycium flower bud fall off
I let them have about 6 hours of direct sunlight everyday, is that too much for them? I live in Malaysia btw, hot climate.

It will grow another (I see one baby bud already). If it keeps happening then you have a problem. At the moment I can't see anything obviously wrong, but a rapid change of growing conditions might cause a problem.

Thanks a lot guys Alright I will keep a careful watch, see if it will bloom next month. I will give it a light shade, see what happens then.

I think 6 hours of Malaysian sun should be fine stick with what you are already doing just one of the thinks gymnos do my mihanovichii dropped a few last season but is fine. The problem I think originates with the genetics rather than care, tbey are very interbreed species in cultivation and seedlings that would not survive in the wild do in cultivation so the gene pool is weakened as a result. The plant looks fine got a good colour obviously the care its receiving is good.

Mine have fell off from the bud getting too wet or plant overwatered and soil staying damp for a few days, or under watering. I don't think overwatering is your issue, try watering once while the bud is half grown like this and keep doing what your doing with light. I bring mine outside and they bloom like crazy!
