Is this ornatum sick?
Not sure but I think this plant is not ok ..has a flimsy stem base that's discoloured but then I suppose light doesn't get to it down there ..on some parts of the stem there is scarring and think it was punctured at some point ...at top of the stem there's a spine cluster that is all floppy and the spines seem loose ..could be movement damage..I don't know but any diagnosis suggestions would be great..could all be signs of astrophytum peculiarity and clumsy handling

Mine has an ugly black base but continues to grow and flower. I don't think it is ideal, but it might not be fatal.
