Grafted cacti tiny spot rotting

Post by keithp2012 »

I got a grafted cacti mailed to me and it took nearly a month to be delivered! It was wrapped in a damp paper towel and upon opening I noticed a small rotted spot on a rib. I potted the cactus in dry soil and have left it outside where it's sunny and good air flow. The rotted area has slightly spread and gotten worse but the rest of the cactus body looks good, is keeping it outside ok?

The graft it's on hardly has any roots so I'm concerned not being able to water might hurt the bottom graft?

The green bottom completely rotted and brown liquid was coming out, and crickets bit a hole in the rotted area.

This happened to the other cactus this was shipped with.

I cleaned the bottom of the cacti body and have it sitting inside drying, hoping it will callous and grow roots then can be potted.

My other cactus I did the same but noticed a root, should I pot it up or let it dry and callous?
