HELP!: Old Friend is looking worse for wear, ideas?

Post by DavidThousand15 »

I've had this Cacti for 10 years or so. It usually grows towards the light but it has been growing away from it recently and the plant flesh is looking a little brown.

Any ideas on what I can do to make the lil' guy more comfortable?

Too little light (definitiely), too little water (possibly). Lots of cacti like all the sunlight they can get if grown on a windowsill - how much sun does your plant get?

I must agree with esp_imaging on the light issue it is suffering from what is known as etoilation (too little light). Brown around the bottom is a bad sign but if it is hard I would not worry to much as it is probably just corking. Another thing, cacti really need to have a free draining soil as well as a free draining pot. I cannot tell if the pot has a hole in the bottom but I would recommend making one if there is not one already.
Hope this helps,
Will
