Spit cactus

Post by CaptainError »

My cactus has a split/crack in it
Image
It's also slightly yellow
I was given this cactus by a friend at least 7 years ago so I don't know what type it is or anything
I'm also a very inexperienced succulent owner
Please help!

Probably had too much water, causing a rupture due to bloated tissue. Oh well, better than rotting roots due to too much water, I guess.

It will grow out of this. Eventually.

Oh gosh OK
I often forget when I've watered it so I probably water it too much because of that

Hi,I agree, far too much water.Has the pot got drainage hole/s in the bottom ? Also the soil looks like it needs some grit/pumice/perlite/or similar mixing into it to make it drain much better and not hold a lot of water.Does the cactus get plenty of sunlight and heat?

There is a drainage hole in the bottom
I'll try to find some of that to mix into the soil, thank you
And yes, it sits on a windowsill

I'd be more concerned with that brown spot towards the base.

Oh that brown spot has been there for years... That was there when I wasn't so into house plants and such (since I was just given this I only just kept it alive instead of really nurturing it)
If there's a way I can help it with that brown spot then that would be great but I wasn't that concerned because it's kept living after having that for a while

If the brown spot isn't soft, it's no problem. Nothing to do about it, it's just an old scar.
