Is my Large Cactus ok?

Hi Everyone -

Long story short, the other week I purchased a large cactus (roughly 3 feet). While the bottom half is very strong, the upper half is a bit softer. Additionally, there is a water spot about 2.5 ft up and when I rub my fingers against the non prickly part, there is condensation that drags as I move my hand...Is that normal?

Also, no photo because, "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached."

Mushy, "wet", sunken spots are not good. Usually that means rot and would have to be cut out.
