My otherwise healthy cactus developed a sick arm at the growing tip. Why do you think this happened and what should i do?
Cut it just below the sick area or lower and dust with sulfur???
Thank you for your help.

Re: stenocereus thurberi sick
It looks like rotting, it will be very soft to the touch if it's rot. I suggest cutting a few inches below the black part and let it heal. I've never done this before though, better wait for more experienced members to comment.

thank you...I hope someone else replies...

From the pic, it looks the wrong colour for more than half it's length. That's the place that I'd make the cut to see what's happening, or work your way there in slices. If the plant was mine, I'd totally amputate the offset.

Yes, cut that off - the sooner, the better. Dusting the cut with sulfur is also a good idea, but the main thing is to make sure you cut it back to healthy tissue with no discoloration Sterilize the knife with alcohol or bleach.
I agree with Steve - removing that entire offset would be a good idea.

I agree with Steve. If the plant were mine, I'd remove that 'sick' offset. It doesn't look like there is much good plant material to save there.Onzuka wrote:If the plant was mine, I'd totally amputate the offset.
