attack of the rats?

So some sort of rodent has been snacking on my cacti and doing damage no plants I really loved but now this is war

A will The cactus shown survive on?

B besides my pellet pistol what's the best way to stop this!

No reason why not. In the wild they will be attacked by animals, insects, disease etc so they have a natural resistance to damage.
Make sure the large damaged area is kept dry until it's completely healed over to help prevent rot. There will be a large scarred area, but it looks like it's a strongly offsetting plant, so it will probably continue to produce healthy offsets. In time, you may choose to get rid of the older scarred head, but it will become less noticeable as the cluster gets bigger.
