Hey all. Brand new to the forum and so glad this exists! I've recently caught the cacti bug and have been slowly filling the apartment with plants. Our largest plant is a lovely cereus peruvianus. Recently, I noticed a brown spot midway down the larger stalk (the darkest area within the spot was unfortunately my doing from having touched it to see if it was soft and rotten). Also, the cut on the other side of the spot was there when we purchased the cactus 4 months ago.
If anyone can give me some insight on what this might be and what I can do to properly care for my cactus in this situation, that would be great! Thanks again.

Re: Cereus Peruvianus Brown Spot
If it is soft and mushy, it is rot and in that case I would just carefully cut out that small area.
