Inherited this cactus which was potted in a clay bowl-pot too large for it. What do you think is the problem? Is it overwatering/wetness?
The white spots were scales, i removed them a toothbrush and sprayed insecticide. Lives in a glasshouse, humid climate, high temps of India.
Also any id on what cactus this is?

Looks like a Coryphantha, maybe elephantidens.
Cacti with a tap root, like this one, are especially vulnerable to over-watering, should be potted in an extra free-draining mix with little or no organic matter - especially in a humid climate. Should be in a deeper, narrower pot rather than a shallow bowl, to give room for the tap root.
It appears to have lost quite a few roots - along with the insect infestation, that would account for its sickly appearance. It should recover given better treatment.

Thanks a lot Greenknight. Changed it to a deeper smaller pot, befitting its size. Also added more gravel to the mix. If it does recover, I will post a pic and thank again
