Hole in the middle

Post by taskan »

Today I changed pot for this G. matoense, 5 years old. I fought that he had a hold, about 5mm depth. He still gives offsets, but i found that he's going weaker than 2015.
Do you have any suggestion for this guy?

From the photo, maybe old rot or dead, but appears to have some roots. I would let dry and clean it up and then see how much damage you have and then decide. :D

After clean the dirt and leave it dry.
My friend give 3 suggestion:
1. Cut down and wait for new root
2. Cut and graft on Stenocereus
3. Fill silicol gel in the hole

That guy is 5 year old, is the new root will come out?

If you're luck, the hold in the middle is old rot that has gone and the plant might like a little longer. If you're not lucky then it is rotting now and almost dead. In either case, I'd take slices off the bottom until you have a clean solid stem and then wait for roots.

Or since you have pups, you could root down one or two of those and just see what happens to the big bit. Experimenting is fun and you might learn something cool. The pups will be five years old in ... about four years :)
