Odd growing Astrophytum

Post by rsales3 »

When I purchased this Astrophytum myriostigma onzuka it was in a 4 inch pot which I thought was over potted. I moved it to a 2 inch pot which was better since the roots were not abundant, seems like the onzuka was recently potted in the 4 inch. By the looks of it, the growth was focused upwards instead of the normal outward. So now my concern is will this onzunka develop more on top and get top heavy? It seems healthy and gets morning to noon sun. Also seems a bit wrinkly at the base of the top growth. Any ideas?

Your plant looks fine to me. Most likely, it will not topple over. However, if that should happen, you could either plant it a little deeper or place some supporting items like a stake or even pebbles around it.

I wouldn't plant it deeper, but you could put big rocks around it for support if needed, though I doubt it's necessary.

Thanks all for the reply, I'll keep an eye on it, hopefully it will fatten up top to bottom.

Cheers.
