Doesn't look too bad really. This type of Mammillaria is naturally soft (but not fluffy!). If the red and softness is an indication of rot then the plant has gone and you'll know about it for sure very soon. Rot-soft is really dramatic, mushy!

I had this type of Mammillaria gone in its own pot...it was like the cactus had been eaten by soil(i don't have a picture)...he just dissapeared...

Smell near the base. If it is rot, you will be able to smell it even before you can actually see the rot.
