Went way too wrong, but why?

Post by mhr »

I wasn't home for some time and actually hadn't given this cacti any attention for quite a while, but today i woke up to this. I probably can't save it anymore, but can anyone tell, what could've caused it? It used to be a symmetrical one-colored cacti.
It certaily can not be from overwatering or physical damage caused by moving or something else. Rot?

I'm very new at this, hope it's not a very dumb question. Any thoughts are appreciated, thank you!

Certainly looks etiolated at the top, but is the bottom really black? Is it mushy?

It is quite soft, yes, not too much tough. When I touch it, it still goes back to it's original shape. The color seems like a really dark shade of green in daylight, but not completely black.
I probably have no chances to save the cacti anymore?

It the colour is due to rot then you won't save it. If it is just etiolated then you'll have a funny-shaped cactus but no reason it would die.
