is this rot?

Post by daffe »

One of my cacti looks like this at the bottom, is it rot? Its nice and green and is growing. I think i gave him to much water. If its rot, should i only cut him 1" above the rot and let him dry a week and put him in a new soil?

It looks like corking (http://www.cactiguide.com/cactipests/#corking), unless it is soft, then it is probably rot.
There is no cactus you can't eat, but you just might regret it if you eat the wrong one.

Agreed, looks like typical corking. Unless it goes mushy there's no problem.

Of it was rot, there wouldn't be dry skin over it. That's just corking.

No, the above responses are correct, this is corking, which is normal.
