Thoughts on what is happening to this Echinocactus grusonii monstrose?

Turning yellow and deflating. Stock is still firm/healthy. 4th pic is from 1/28 for reference.

Has it gone soft at all?

Yeah. It started turning yellow and soft. I wasn't sure what was happening since I usually see rot start in the stock and work it's way up. Someone told me this clone can be very temperamental, so I decided to perform emergency surgery. We'll see what happens as the new stock wasn't growing as actively as I'd prefer.
