Brown spots and wrinkles

Post by Ann97 »

Hello everybody,

I've noticed some yellowish/brown spots on my cactus and it has some wrinkles on it, I'm trying not to over water it and it is not exposed to direct sunlight. It would be really helpful if someone could tell me if something is wrong with it.

Mammillaria vetula subsp. gracilis - and it could use more light. I will grow in full sun or light shade, but it would need to be gradually acclimatized to full sun to avoid sunburn. See - http://llifle.com/Encyclopedia/CACTI/Fa ... ._gracilis

Slight wrinkling is nothing to worry about. The brown spots probably aren't, either, as long as they're not soft and they're confined to the base of the plant. It wouldn't hurt to inspect it with a magnifier for Spider Mites, anyway - http://www.cactiguide.com/cactipests/#spidermite . Mites attack the new growth, though, so it's unlikely that's the cause.

Thank you so much for ID and advice. I will place it elsewhere. :)
However the plant is a little softer at the bottom. What would you suggest I do?

Check the roots to see if they're healthy.
