Hi all,
This morning I see something overnight took a chunk out of this tiny lithops that I got just yesterday. I've never had a damaged lithops before. I read if the core is damaged it won't grow new leaves.
Do you think it will survive? Is there anything I can do to help it or must I just leave it and hope for the best. Also how does its exposed flesh affect watering - will this one lose water through the wound? (Its midwinter, I live in South Africa and I'm keeping them all dry now.)
Lithops damaged, what to do, will it survive
Re: Lithops damaged, what to do, will it survive
I think this one will survive this. They do get nibbled on in their natural habitat, and if not too severe (and it looks like this is not very severe nibbled) it will just grow another leaf pair in the next season. The new leaf pair might be a bit smaller, though.
Just leave it alone if it is dormant, allow the wound to scar and just wait for spring in your hemisphere.

I agree - the central bud isn't damaged, it should survive.
