Bowiea volubilis rotting?

Post by Cacidy »

Are we allowed to post about other succulents here?

I have this Bowiea volubilis that seems to be rotting. I bought it 2 weeks ago and I've watered it once a week. It was on a south-east facing wall with direct sun later in the afternoon.

It is squishy...

Yes, I do agree with your diagnosis. Your plant has succumbed to a rot. There can be various reasons for this to occur. One of them could even be a severe sunburn. If your plant was outdoors and exposed to the afternoon sun, this could be detrimental to it. The solar radiation and its strength is at its peak from about 1 p.m. through 4 p.m..
Most plants that are sold to the public were produced in a greenhouse, which does have a shade curtain over the roof. When these plants are placed in a sunny location, especially if they receive the afternoon sun, they need to be shaded there too, in order to acclimate them. Even for most cacti, it is best, if they are growing in filtered light or in a spot, where they do receive mostly the morning sun.
