Brown Skin

Post by Mike86 »

  • Hi everyone,

I'm a fair newbie to cacti so apologies for any lack of knowledge. I have an issue with my largest one (about 1m tall), a large portion of the skin has turned brown. It doesn't feel soft which leads me to thinking it might not be rot. I cut a small section off one of the brown areas and it seems as though it's literally the out skin that is brown, just a small layer, and underneath that layer it is green still.

Photos as below. Any thoughts of what I can do to fix it?

    Cheers, Michael

Your plant is a Euphorbia, which is a succulent native to the Old World (African continent). It looks like the epidermis of the plant did experience some event that turned it the color it does have. Because the discoloration seems to be located on just one side of your plant, something like a sunburn could be the reason, although insect and mite pests may also prefer a specific side of a plant to feed on.
Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to get rid of the discoloration. At least your plant is otherwise healthy.
