Hi! It’s my first time posting here and I’m excited to learn more about my cacti collection.
This one I’m posting about (see pics!) was gifted to be by someone that used it for a photo shoot and didn’t want it anymore (lucky me). I have posted the picture from May and the picture now in December. For reference, I live in New York.
I’d love to hear what anyone has to say, ID, thoughts on the growth, possible rot/spots.. I’ve noticed that it is growing tall but much thinner. Also these are areas that look funky and not well. Excited to hear tips and tricks!
Thanks

The spots could be due to a pest like scale insects. Closeups would be better.naomiaileen wrote:Hi! It’s my first time posting here and I’m excited to learn more about my cacti collection.

As for the thin growth, it's due to insufficiemt light. This is a full sun plant. Try to give it as much sun as you can and don't water during winter.
Regarding the ID, it could be trichocereus pachanoi or something similar.
By the way, welcome to the forum!

This one is possibly cereus peruvianus with the same problems as the other one

I get the feeling that you ordered these cacti without knowing what they are, or how to take care of them.
Im going to reccomend the following articles

You need to get to the basics first. Growing cacti is not like growing most houseplants.

Thanks for the info, i will read up on them. I did not order then, they were randomly gifted to me and i am just trying my best to accommodate and find the best place to grow them for the time being in my home. When i noticed some issues arising, i found this website in hopes to figure out what i can do. Excited to learn more! thanksstefan m. wrote:I get the feeling that you ordered these cacti without knowing what they are, or how to take care of them.
