Hi everyone, I posted a couple weeks back about a cactus I received that someone was getting rid of due to moving. It wasn’t in great condition and is progressively getting worse. I feel like the whole thing will snap from the base soon since it has root rot.
Can someone give me advice on cutting and storing. I’m in New York. It’s been beyond cold recently. I’m not sure if I should cut and store till spring to attempt to plant them. I think the warmer weather will be benefitical. Since it is so large, would it work to cut in a few pieces. How would it work to try growing from a cutting that is cut from the top and bottom? First off all, if you want highest chance of success , you have to cut it in as bigger pieces as possible.
Second, if you are cutting it, make sure the center of it is healthy not like this one(rot) http://cactiguide.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=39973-

Third, disinfect whatever tools you intend to use, cut, and seal the scar with cinnamon powder.
Let it rest for two weeks, and then place in commercial cactus soil mixed extra perlite and pumice(or gravel ).

Cinnmon is not for rooting- its for callousing- i used it and its very effective even when dealing with the dangerous types of fungi

its a substitute for sulfur powder which they dont sell here- and im sure you dont want near yourself.

Sulfur powder is more effective, and available at any drug store in the US as "flowers of sulfur".

"Sulfur powder is more effective" while ive got nothing against it, its just not very safe to use without proper equipment. Again, im not in the US, i recall there being a severe snow storm, and i dont know the price range.

ha, ha, ha ... hi stefan ... you mention this like the U.S. is the size of a city and that a snow storm would make a difference everywhere. The U.S. is some 2,700 miles (4,300KM) wide ....
