The book went to the printers for a proof copy which we will review this week and then the first print run will finally be done, with the book released in mid February.

The book has 411 color high res photos, covers 130+ taxa and each distribution includes a map.

I'll be excited to see it in final print form!

Peter, this will be a very welcome and well done book. I can't wait to get mine. Now that it is much too late, I could answer that question you had earlier regarding E. engelmannii var. purpureus or at least the diploid population of Echinocereus in northeastern Arizona and southwestern Utah. Blake Wellard is well on his way to writing it up for publication.

Yes, right!! I was busy working on Opuntia and it didn't occur to me that you might not have received the update on "var. purpureus". Perhaps you did from Marc Baker anyway. At any rate, the new name is not yet published so no way to include it. Like you said, a second edition addition.

No, and we were resolved not to publish any new names, relying only on previous good and valid publications. So, definitely for edition 2! I look forward to seeing the info.

Got my copy today at B & B's cactus farm. Lots of info and looks great! Well worth $25.95. I did find a couple of cacti species whose distribution range should be expanded for the 2nd edition  .

Which ones??? I saw a few range maps that need to be "tweaked" as well.
All in all, this is the best book of its kind that I've ever seen.

Agreed--it is the best. The two species I noticed were Ferocactus acanthodes and Peniocereus greggi var. greggi, both found west of the plotted boundaries.

Agreed, Ferocactus acanthodes occurs northwest completely to the Utah border and beyond. I found at least a dozen range maps in need of adjustment. I love this book!!!

A robust population of F. acanthodes also occurs south of the Bill Williams River in the Buckskin Mountains, crossing the Parker Strip and the Colorado River and continuing into California's Whipple Mountains.

The Tucson Cactus & Succulent Society website sells them.
