When I first bought this cactus, it was only about 2" tall. I was SO disappointed that it was SO small ... I thought it would be years before it gained any size.

There were either NO pictures taken of this cactus this year or i've lost them.

I think I acquired its two companions just shortly after this picture was taken.

When I put these cacti in this bowl in 2015, they were a little "wobbly". So I put these skewers in the dirt and tied a piece of twine around the skewer and the cactus. Loosely. I mean it was barely touching the cactus. And yet the cactus grew like there was a piece of rope tied around it so tight it was strangling. See the constrictions around its growth? Oh, and the orientation of this pic. It does not exist this way on MY machine. I have NO idea why the system insists on turning some pictures sideways! Sigh...

I still think that it will be years before it reaches any size, but at least it has made some progress. I have NO coin in this picture for scale, so we'll have to use a different method. On last years picture, you can count from the "growth constriction" to the top, the number of places where spines grow. Areoles. For last years cactus, you will get 6. Do the same count on this years picture ... and you'll get 9.
