That is because I mostly cultivate tropical species endemic to north eastern Brazil and Melocactus endemic to the Carribean.

Part 4

Arrojadoa dinae is a great miniature Brazilian cereoid - native to the arid Caatinga - that can be grown to maturity in small containers and begins to flower profusely here in early December - and continuously in flower until Spring.

Part 5

Arrojadoa rhodantha

Habitat: Caatinga of N.E. Brazil.

Notes:
Like all Arrojadoa's this is very free flowering in cultivation. It is easily grown, producing
numerous basal branches that develop bristly dark reddish brown apical cephaliums. The waxy bright pink flowers are are followed by large globular red fruit.

Hardy outdoors to 25 deg F here in Tucson.

Most of the plants depicted here are growing in plastic containers of various sizes using 80 percent Bach Cactus Nursery (Tucson) soil mix plus 20 percent coarse horticultural pumice.

Bach Cactus Nursery mix:
60 percent coarse horticultural pumice
20 percent high quality Canadian sphagnum peat moss
20 percent well composted shredded pine tree forest bark

Some are growing semi-hydroponically in a mineral mix.

Micranthocereus densiflorus (syn. Micranthocereus flaviflorus var. densiflorus) cuttings
rooted in spring will produce flowers later in the year.

A simply gorgeous display of the progression of flower growth. And the variety of color ... this is the reason I grow cacti! An astounding arrangement of photos.

Are the seeds to this cacti readily available? And how long from seed to flower?

Would you be willing to sell any of youir cuttings?

P.S. I used to live in Tuscon ... 1973 to 1977 ... and I really do miss it. I loved the desert intensely. I hope you've been to the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum ... I learned there that there is a greater variety of life forms in the Sonoran desert than there are any where in the world ... except a rain forest.
Make the moral choice & always do what's right. Be a good example. Be part of the solution & make a contribution to society, or be part of the problem & end your life with nothing but regrets. Live a life you can be proud of! Zone 7a

Thank you Wayne. Most of my cacti are now in greenhouses at the Dan Bach Cactus Nursery or those of my friend and fellow collector Michel Pillet (a member of this Forum). I believe Michel is collecting seed - he is an exceptional seed grower - you might contact him regarding obtaining some. The same goes for cuttings - he should have some available for next years growing season. I am a member of the Desert Museum and a frequent visitor.

Fantastic James! I don't believe I've told you, but I managed to find seed of M. hofackerianus - will have to share some seedlings with you in spring!
