Selenicereus grandiflorus question

Post by ThePackrat »

Hiya!

I have 2 Selenicereus cuttings that I recieved a few months ago. They seem to be doing well and enjoying their new home. :)

A few days ago I noticed some new growth near the base of one of the cuttings! It is growing out of an areole, and it has grown quite a bit (doubled) since I first noticed it. It's now about 5mm long, and the cactus itself is no thicker than a pencil. Makes me wonder how something so small can produce such big flowers!

Is this a flower that is emerging, or is it just a new "arm"? I know very little about S. Grandiflorus exept that it produces huge delightfully smelling flowers. :D

Photos can be provided if it will help.

Also, it's been incredibly warm here the last few days! I came home to find my livingroom a sweltering 30C when I got back from work!

Here is a chart of the last 30 days:

Yes, photos! In all likelihood it is a new stem. These plants usually don't flower until established and root bound.

New stem is what I thought aswell. :)
It looks more like a new stem rather than a flowerbud now that I've looked at other pictures :)

I will definately be keeping an eye on it though!
