Pioneer days...
Pioneer days...
We went up to "Paul Bunyon Land" near Brainerd, MN. I'm not kidding, such a place does exist!
Here is a pic of Paul himself: Anyway, earlier this month they had a "pioneer days" type event with all the old farm equipment. Steam tractors, threshing machines, stationary engines, etc. Couldn't help think of Hob while I was here:
I took some video, but here are a few photos:

Re: Pioneer days...
makes me think back to my days when I was visiting the farm in Ohio. I drove a tractor and cut a whole field of hay when I was around 13 or so. IT was sorta fun.
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.

Here is a video of the stationary engines - some corny commentary included.

Did you take that first overhead shot from the ferris wheel? Pretty cool!

Hey, I see that wood splitter video ends before you can see the other one at work. So here is that other one:

We were pretty amazed ourselves at how lax the safety thing was at the show. Of course, this is a family run event up in the North Woods. In a fairly rural setting. People could waltz around freely right next to operating equipment. I suppose it will be that way until someone gets hurt and then it will all change.hob wrote: some of those displays would never be allowed over here under our health and safety rules
Here is the saw mill operating The steam tractor running it is also pictured above - it is a thing of beauty - built in 1908 - over 100 years ago!

I sure as heck would rather use my axe to split logs then use the splitters. Those things are scary. The saw mill was pretty neat tho. The blade was spinning pretty fast and it seemed to cut pretty well.

Re: Pioneer days...
Our local fair always has the old farm equipment every year. Always enjoy checking them out. Sometimes I wish I didn't sell my old 8N ford tractor.

Yes, too bad. Those are instantly recognizable.cactushobbyman wrote: my old 8N ford tractor.
