CSSA's post convention Baja Field Trip

Post by peterb »

Hello- I just noticed that the Cactus and Succulent Society of America is organizing a field trip for after the Seattle convention-- 10 days to travel the entire Baja peninsula by car, flying back to Tijuana from La Paz. It sounds like they will have highly knowledgeable people guiding the plant hunting.

The price of $2500-$2700 is fairly reasonable, considering the accomodations (hotels) and the flight back to Tijuana, etc. (The price also includes a $200 donation to the CSSA). Flying back enables the group to take its time heading south and cover the whole peninsula.

Of course, it is possible to take one's own trip there for less than half the CSSA fee. (The campground directly on the Sea of Cortez in Bahia de Los Angeles, for example, was $5 per person per night, and with the proper vehicle there are many free camping opportunities all over the peninsula). Also, obviously, if one can spend more time than 10 days down there, I highly recommend it.

Anyway, more info on the CSSA trip here (deadline is tomorrow!):

Thanks Peter! I am trying to plan one of those "Budget" trips down there at the end of February if everything works out. You all will know for sure if it does work out! \:D/

hi daiv-

after we returned I discovered this very interesting website:

http://www.desertmuseum.org/programs/succulents.html

We were quite close to Cerro Colorado and could have made the drive down there. They have catalogued 44 species of succulents from that single site. Next time!
