There always is, no matter what (if it's not defined it's what will overload the server).

I like to take many photos. Can be useful for ID or to see the details and different views for one given plant.
Anyway, yesterday I discovered that an topic with many photos it is difficult to administer and edit.
It is more easy to split the photos in few answers.

Another thing to consider is the size of the photos, if they only just meet the size limit then you will be able to upload less than ones that are way off the size limit. I believe that there is a limit on the number of photos on a thread as well as the size of the attachments combined together.
